Category:Password managers Category:Utilities for WindowsOn Tuesday, the New York State Assembly passed a bill to allow beer to be sold on Sunday in addition to the current system of just Tuesday through Saturday sales. Today, Governor Cuomo signed the bill into law. It was a legislative and political process that had its ups and downs. But this is big for beer fans and Sunday drinkers. “The bill will mean that New Yorkers will no longer have to sacrifice a day of rest for the sake of being able to drink,” said William Gormley, president of the New York State Beer Alliance. “A free and fair weekend market gives consumers more options and we look forward to a more competitive beer market overall.” How will this change the beer market in New York? State Senator Cathy Young sponsored the original bill. Young said she never anticipated the current eight-day business limitation would be a problem for the state’s breweries, which continue to produce beer on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as well. What’s next? The new law will take effect in 30 days. The governor said he hopes the new law will help boost the economy. Cuomo noted that the typical American household spends $50 per week on alcohol. “This will bring people into our stores. Let’s say the beer is $10, you get the return of $50. That’s $5 a week that the family is going to spend in our stores,” Cuomo said. “And I think that has got to be a good thing for our state.” For the beer industry, the new law will bring a competitive advantage. Some of that advantage will come from the possible increased market share. Some of it will come from the new freedom to compete on a level playing field. “It’s going to allow us to increase market share,” said Gormley. “It will give us the opportunity to run the full length of the week. It will help us compete more effectively on a week-to-week basis, which is a big deal because we are very price sensitive.” The other benefit of the new law, of course, is that it will allow people to drink more beer on Sunday, which is not currently allowed in New York. This is great news for beer drinkers. But is it good news for the beer industry? ac619d1d87
